Ocean Voices is a series of mixed media meditations on canvas. These paintings reflect upon the Trans Atlantic Slave trade and the experience of Black bodies in transit to an unknown fate. The unrelenting creativity that has been born out of this history demonstrates Black abilities to re-create and re-generate even when transplanted into a strange land. With eerily calm and serene blue and grey tones, this series processes trans-historical and intergenerational grief caused by the enslavement of African people and colonial subjectivities.

Each of these works was created during the summer of 2021.
